The thermostat in your vehicle acts as a gatekeeper, regulating the flow of coolant to maintain the engine's optimal operating temperature. It allows the engine to warm up quickly and then maintains a steady temperature by opening and closing at the right intervals. Why is it Needed?

Engines thrive at a certain temperature range. The thermostat ensures that the engine heats up quickly from a cold start and prevents overheating by controlling the coolant circulation through the radiator. This balance is essential for optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.

How It Works

Embedded in most cooling systems, the thermostat remains closed when the engine is cold, trapping coolant within the engine. As the engine warms up, the thermostat gradually opens, allowing hot coolant to flow through the radiator for cooling. This cycle repeats perpetually, maintaining an ideal temperature.

Consequences of a Broken Thermostat

If the thermostat fails, it can stick either open or closed. A stuck open thermostat can lead to a continuously running cold engine, resulting in reduced efficiency and increased emissions. Conversely, a stuck closed thermostat can cause engine overheating, risking severe engine damage.
