Front Left Inboard Drive Joint Assembly (CV Joint)
This drivetrain joint is needed to transfer engine torque from the transaxle to the left front axle while the suspension moves up/down and the wheels steer. It’s the “inboard” side, so it handles strong load changes and keeps the drive smooth during acceleration.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the housing, precision tracks and bearings allow the axle shaft to change angle and length slightly. High-temp grease and a sealed boot reduce friction, control heat, and prevent dirt and water from grinding the joint surfaces.
Symptoms When Worn or Broken
If the joint or boot fails, grease leaks out and contamination gets in. Common results are shudder on takeoff, vibration under load, clunking during gear changes, and oil-like splatter around the inner wheel area. In severe cases the joint can bind or separate, causing loss of drive to that wheel and possible transmission seal damage.
