Power Steering Gear Seal Set ️

Why you need it

This kit restores hydraulic tightness in the steering box, stopping fluid leaks and bringing back smooth, light steering. Heat, age, and dirty fluid harden old rubber parts, causing seepage, air entry, and loss of assist. Re-sealing is the clean, cost-effective fix versus replacing the whole gear.

How it works

Precision lip seals, O-rings, and dust rings sit on the input/pinion and sector (pitman) shafts and around the control valve passages. Under pump pressure, the seal lips energize to keep fluid in and dirt out, holding stable pressure for consistent assist and accurate road feel. Proper sealing also protects the pump by maintaining correct return flow.

If it’s worn or broken ⚠️

You’ll notice heavy steering at low speed, whining pump, fluid on the pitman arm or crossmember, foamy reservoir, wandering on-center, and uneven assist when parking. Running low on fluid can overheat and damage the pump and gear, raising repair costs.

Tech tips βœ…

  • Inspect shafts for grooves; polish lightly if needed.
  • Pre-lube seals, match orientations, press squarely.
  • Torque covers evenly; center gear before install.
  • Bleed by turning lock-to-lock; recheck for leaks after a road test.
