Engine Oil Cooler O‑Ring Seal ️

This high‑temp sealing ring sits between the engine oil cooler and its housing/adapter. Its job is to keep pressurized oil inside the cooler and out of coolant passages, so your engine holds proper oil pressure and stable temperature. A small part with a big role, it protects bearings, cam journals, and turbo under heavy loads and long trips.

Why it’s needed ️

Heat, age, and vibration flatten old rubber, causing seepage. A fresh oil cooler O‑ring restores clamping preload, stops leaks, and prevents oil/coolant cross‑contamination. Replace it any time the cooler or filter housing is removed.

How it works βš™οΈ

The elastomer ring compresses when the cooler is torqued, forming a radial face seal on both sides. It resists hot oil, coolant splash, thermal cycling, and pressure pulses, keeping the joint tight from cold start to highway speeds.

If the seal fails

  • Oil sweat or drips at cooler flange
  • Milky oil or oily coolant (mixing)
  • Burning oil smell, mess on undertray
  • Low oil pressure warning, bearing wear
  • Overheating due to poor heat exchange

Service notes

  • Clean grooves; lightly oil the new ring
  • Torque fasteners evenly in a cross pattern
  • Inspect mating faces for warping/corrosion
  • After start, check for leaks and re‑verify level
