    Manual Gearbox Main Shaft Extension Housing Bearing

    This precision bearing supports the manual transmission main shaft where it runs through the extension housing. It is needed to keep the shaft perfectly centered, reduce friction, and hold correct gear alignment under load. Without this support, the shaft can wobble, creating noise and unstable shifting.

    How it works

    Hardened steel rolling elements spin between inner and outer races, carrying radial load while allowing the shaft to rotate smoothly. A correct fit in the housing prevents movement, keeps oil film stable, and helps the gearbox run cooler and quieter.

    Signs the bearing is failing

    When worn or damaged, you may notice:

    • Whining or growling that changes with speed
    • Vibration through the shifter
    • Hard shifting or popping out of gear
    • Metal particles in gearbox oil

    What happens if you drive with a broken one

    A broken bearing can let the main shaft run off-center, accelerating gear and synchro wear. In severe cases it can score the housing, overheat the gearbox, and lead to sudden transmission failure. Replacing it restores smooth rotation, correct alignment, and quiet operation ✅
