Power Steering Pump Drive Idler Pulley
Why this part is needed
This pulley keeps the power steering belt on the correct path and at the right tension. It lets the pump spin smoothly, so hydraulic pressure stays stable. That means light, precise steering during city driving and parking. A worn pulley makes the system work harder, wasting power and fuel.
How it works
Bolted to a fixed bracket, the pulley guides the belt between the crankshaft and the power steering pump. A sealed, high-speed bearing reduces friction and keeps the belt aligned. The correct rim profile prevents slip, heat, and belt glazing. Balanced construction cuts vibration and noise for a quiet steering feel.
What happens if it breaks ⚠️
- Squeal or chirp on start-up
- Belt wobble, frayed edges, dust
- Heavy steering or intermittent assist
- Burning rubber smell; possible belt snap
If the bearing seizes, the belt can break. You may lose steering assist, and other driven accessories can stop, triggering warning lights. Continued driving can damage the pump and tensioner.
