Why this part is needed
This bearing supports the rod on the crankshaft and keeps a stable oil film between moving surfaces. It cuts friction, holds correct clearance, protects the crank journal, and keeps oil pressure steady. If youβre rebuilding, fixing knock, or refreshing highβmileage engines, replacing this wear item restores silence and performance.
How it works
Two semiβcircular shells sit in the rod and cap with precise βcrushβ to lock in place. A soft bearing layer on a steel backing rides on pressurized oil. Hydrodynamic lubrication forms a protective wedge as the crank spins, so metal doesnβt touch metal. Correct sizing and clean assembly are critical. Use assembly lube and torque to spec.
What happens if itβs damaged
Low oil pressure, cold or hot knocking, glitter in oil, misfire under load, and rising temps. Continued driving can spin the bearing, score the journal, and seize the engineβoften needing crank grind or replacement. Replace at first signs of wear.
