Clutch Hub Locking Nut for Mazda Transmissions ?

This hardened locknut secures the clutch hub on the gearbox input shaft, holding correct preload and alignment. It keeps the clutch hub and splines tight, so torque flows cleanly from engine to transmission. Without a positive lock here, the hub can creep, splines wear, and shifting suffers.

Why you need it βœ…

It prevents axial movement of the clutch hub under heat and vibration. The flanged face and locking feature resist loosening, protecting bearings, synchros, and the clutch pack.

How it works βš™οΈ

The nut threads onto the shaft, clamps the hub stack to spec, and is then staked or deformed to β€œlock.” This maintains constant clamping force, keeping the hub square to the shaft and the gearset in correct position.

When it fails or is reused ⚠️

Expect clutch slip or grabby engagement, notchiness on shifts, rattle at idle, metal flakes in oil, uneven pedal feel, or even loss of drive if the hub backs off. A used or cracked locknut can’t hold torque; always replace during clutch or gearbox service.

Tech tips ?

Install on clean, dry threads, torque to factory spec, and stake the collar as specified. Replace seals if any play or oil shows. Never over-impact; use a holding tool.
