Information
V-Rib Drive Belt for A/C Compressor to Crank Pulley οΈ
This drive belt links the engine crankshaft pulley to the air conditioner compressor. Itβs needed to transfer clean, steady rotation from the engine to the compressor so your cabin stays cool and the system works at the correct speed. A good belt also helps keep accessory load smooth, reducing vibration and squeal.
How It Works βοΈ
The belt rides in the pulley grooves and grips by friction. As the crankshaft spins, the belt turns the compressor pulley, allowing the compressor to build pressure and circulate refrigerant. Correct belt tension is critical: too loose and it slips; too tight and it overloads bearings.
What Happens If Itβs Worn or Broken
If the belt cracks, stretches, or snaps, the A/C compressor will stop turning. You may notice loss of cold air, chirping/squealing noises, burning rubber smell, or visible fraying. Continued slipping can glaze pulleys, stress the compressor clutch, and in severe cases leave you stranded if debris tangles around nearby components.
