Rear Transfer Pinion Bearing for Toyota AWD/4WD βš™οΈ

This precision bearing supports the driven pinion at the back of the transfer case. It keeps the shaft aligned, reduces friction, and holds correct gear mesh. Without it, helical gear loads would push the pinion off-center, causing noise and wear. Built from heat-treated steel with tight tolerances, it carries both radial and axial loads for quiet, smooth drive.

How it works

Tapered rollers run in a hardened race, bathing in gear oil. Correct preload is set by shims or a crush sleeve and a locknut. Proper preload stops play, controls heat, and keeps the gear pattern centered. Sealing surfaces help retain oil and block contaminants for long life.

What happens if it fails

Early signs: humming/whine at 40–80 km/h, rumble on coast, driveline vibration, metal flakes in oil, rising temperature, and oil seep at the rear. Continued use leads to poor gear contact, tooth pitting, prop shaft play, and finally seized rollers or broken pinionβ€”often destroying the transfer case.

Tech tips ️

Press in square, measure preload by torque-to-rotate, and renew seal and crush sleeve when fitted. Fill with fresh spec gear oil and road-test for noise and heat.
