Transfer counter gear support bearing ⚙️
This precision roller element keeps the counter gear in the transfer case running true. It carries high radial load from the gear mesh, reduces friction, and holds correct alignment so torque is quietly split to front and rear drive. Built from hardened, ground steel for long life. OE ref: 90363‑32006.
Why this part is needed
Without a stable support, the counter gear would tilt and chew into its mate. This bearing maintains centerline, protects tooth contact, controls heat, and keeps driveline vibration low. It also helps the oil film stay consistent, protecting gears, chain, and seals.
How it works
The outer race is press-fit in the case; the inner race locates on the counter shaft. Hardened balls roll between races, converting sliding friction to rolling. Correct internal clearance allows for thermal growth. Bath lubrication from the transfer case oil feeds the bearing at speed.
If it’s worn or broken ⚠️
Expect road‑speed whine or rumble, metal glitter in oil, hot spots on the case, and shudder on throttle. Misalignment can pit gear teeth, overheat seals, and shed debris into the whole unit. Left unchecked, it can seize, crack the case, or lose drive to one axle.
Tech notes and tips
Press in/out squarely—never hammer. Warm the housing to ease install, check endplay/preload and any shims, and fit new snap rings if used. Refill with the specified oil and road test for noise. If the old bearing failed, inspect companion gears and magnets for debris.
