Crankshaft Oil Seal
This precision oil seal is needed to keep engine oil exactly where it belongs—inside the crankcase—while the crankshaft spins at high speed. It protects the timing area/bell housing zone from oil leaks and helps the engine stay clean, efficient, and reliable ?.
How It Works
The seal’s flexible lip rides on the crankshaft surface and maintains constant pressure using an internal spring. As the shaft rotates, the lip design creates a thin oil film that reduces friction while still blocking oil from escaping. The outer shell locks tightly into the engine cover to stop seepage around the housing.
Why Replacing It Matters
A weak or hardened seal can’t hold pressure. Oil may drip onto the underbody, clutch area, or drive components, causing odors, smoke, and mess. Low oil level can also increase bearing wear and raise engine temperature.
When It’s Broken or Worn
Typical signs include oil stains near the crank area, burnt-oil smell, clutch slip (on some setups), or repeated oil top-ups. Ignoring the leak can lead to oil starvation and costly engine damage ⚠️.
