Air‑Fuel Ratio Sensor (Wideband O₂) for Toyota engines ⚙️

Why this part is needed ✅

This upstream A/F sensor feeds the ECU with precise mixture data so the engine stays near 14.7:1 under cruise and adjusts richer or leaner under load. The result is smooth idle, strong throttle response, lower emissions, better MPG, and protection of the catalytic converter. If you want factory-grade drivability and clean exhaust, this sensor is essential.

How it works

Inside is a heated zirconia wideband cell with a reference chamber and a pump cell. The heater brings the element to temperature in seconds. The ECU drives pump current to hold stoichiometric balance; that current reflects lambda (rich/lean). Using this signal, the ECU trims injector pulse in real time for accurate closed‑loop control in all conditions.

What happens if it fails

Age, contamination (coolant/oil/silicone), or heater burnout causes sluggish or false readings. Symptoms include Check Engine light, poor fuel economy, rough idle, hesitation, hard cold starts, sulfur smell, black tailpipe, and failed emissions. Prolonged driving can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Replace upstream, route the harness away from heat, add a small amount of anti‑seize to threads (never the tip), torque to spec, reset fuel trims, and clear codes.
