    Intake Air Temperature Sensor for Precise Fuel Control

    This small sensor is a big deal for engine management. It tells the ECU how warm or cold the incoming air is, so the computer can set the right fuel dose and ignition timing. The result is smooth starts, steady idle, strong mid-range pull, lower emissions, and better fuel economy.

    Why your engine needs it ❄️

    Air density changes with temperature. Colder air is denser and needs more fuel; hot air needs less. An accurate reading prevents rich or lean mixtures, protects the catalytic converter, and keeps MPG in check.

    How it works

    Inside is a fast NTC thermistor. The ECU sends a 5V reference and reads the return voltage. As air gets warmer, resistance drops, the signal changes, and the ECU trims fuel and timing in real time. The tip sits in the airstream for rapid response.

    If it fails: symptoms and risks ⚠️

    • Hard cold starts or stalling at idle
    • Sluggish throttle, flat spots, misfires
    • Poor fuel economy, fuel smell, black tailpipe
    • Check Engine Light (often P0112/P0113)
    • Raised emissions and possible cat damage

    Fitment tips

    Usually installed in the intake duct or manifold. Disconnect battery, unplug, swap the sensor, and avoid overtightening. Clean the connector, clear codes, and verify readings on a warm-up drive. Keep oiled filters away to prevent contamination.
