Diesel Coolant Temperature Sensor for Toyota Engines
This engine coolant temperature (ECT) sender is built for Toyota diesel applications. It delivers precise heat data to the ECU so fueling, timing, idle speed, glow plug control, and the radiator fan work in sync. Accurate readings protect the motor from overheating and help achieve clean combustion, smooth starts, and strong fuel economy.
Why you need it ️
Modern diesel control systems rely on this sensor to know when the engine is cold, warming up, or fully hot. With correct temperature feedback, the ECU trims injection, reduces smoke, and stabilizes idle. It also supports proper DPF and EGR strategies, extending component life.
How it works ⚙️
Inside the brass body sits an NTC thermistor. As coolant warms, resistance drops. The ECU reads the changing voltage from a 5V reference and converts it into an exact temperature value. That signal guides cold-start enrichment, glow plug time, fan activation, and protection limits.
If it fails
Expect hard cold starts, rich running, rough idle, poor MPG, black smoke, weak power, fan stuck on or off, and warning lights (ECT codes). In severe cases: overheating and possible head gasket damage.
Fitment and tips ️
Install in the coolant passage with a fresh seal or O-ring. Do not overtighten. Refill and bleed air from the cooling system. Keep the connector clean and locked to prevent intermittent signals.
