Automatic Headlight Light-Level Sensor
This component helps your vehicle switch the headlights on and off by itself. It “reads” outside brightness (sunlight, tunnels, rain-dark skies) and sends a signal to the body control system so lighting reacts at the right moment. It’s a small part, but it makes daily driving safer and more comfortable
Why this part is needed
Modern lighting systems rely on accurate ambient-light information. Without a good signal, the car can’t decide when to turn on parking lights, low beams, and dash illumination. This sensor supports visibility and helps keep you legal at dusk and in poor weather.
How it works
A photoelectric element measures light intensity and converts it into a voltage/value. The control unit compares that value to preset thresholds and triggers the headlight relay/commands with a smooth delay to prevent flickering when passing under bridges.
If it’s faulty or broken
You may see headlights staying on in daylight, not turning on in darkness, or cycling on/off. The dash may log a fault, and auto mode can become unreliable. Driving with wrong lighting increases accident risk and can drain the battery if lights remain on too long ⚠️
