Reverse Light Switch for Toyota – Safe Backing Up Every Time
This backup lamp switch tells your rear lights to turn on the moment you select “R”. You need it for clear night visibility, to alert traffic and pedestrians, and to trigger parking aids or cameras. A healthy switch means safer parking, fewer surprises, and compliance with road safety checks.
How It Works
Mounted on the transmission/transaxle case, a spring-loaded plunger touches the shift rail in reverse. That closes an internal contact and sends 12V to the reverse lamps. The body is heat‑resistant, the terminals are sealed against moisture, and a crush washer keeps gear oil from escaping.
If It Fails
No reverse lights, intermittent flicker, camera not activating, blown fuse from an internal short, or oil seep at the threads. Driving remains possible, but safety and legality suffer—especially at night or during inspection.
Replacement Tips
Disconnect battery, raise vehicle safely, unplug connector, unscrew switch, clean the port, fit a new sealing washer, torque to spec, reconnect, and test in “R”. Choose OEM-grade for correct pin length and contact rating.
