Fuel Tank Cap Assembly – Secure Seal for EVAP and Emissions
This fuel filler cap keeps the tank sealed, protects fuel quality, and maintains the EVAP system. It stops gasoline vapors escaping, keeps dust and water out, and locks pressure so the engine management can control emissions. A healthy cap also prevents fuel smell around the vehicle and reduces evaporation losses ⛽.
Why you need it
Without a proper seal, the EVAP system cannot hold vacuum. You may see a Check Engine Light with codes like P0440/P0455/P0456, notice fuel odor, and experience reduced fuel economy. Dirt entering the neck can also shorten fuel pump and injector life.
How it works
The cap uses a fuel‑resistant rubber gasket, a vent/relief valve for controlled pressure and vacuum, and a ratcheting torque limiter that “clicks” when tightened. Turn until the click for correct seal. A tether keeps it from being lost .
If it’s broken or worn
Expect vapor leaks, hard starts after refueling, slow pump shutoff, corrosion risk in the tank, and persistent CEL. Cracked gaskets or failed valves are the usual causes.
Tech tips
- Inspect and replace if gasket is flat, cracked, or sticky.
- Clean filler neck lip before install; tighten until it clicks .
- Avoid petroleum grease on the seal; it can swell rubber.
Compatibility
