Fuel Filler Door Cover Assembly

This exterior cover seals and protects the fuel inlet area. It is needed to keep dirt, road salt, and water away from the filler neck, cap, and surrounding bodywork. A clean, closed inlet zone also helps prevent fuel smell around the vehicle and reduces the risk of tampering ⛽.

How It Works

The cover pivots on a hinge and locks into a latch to sit flush with the quarter panel. When you press the release (or open by hand, depending on trim), the latch disengages and the door swings open to access the fuel cap. The correct fit keeps panel gaps even and avoids paint rub.

Why Replacing Matters

If the cover is cracked, bent, or the hinge/latch is worn, it may not close tightly. That can lead to corrosion around the filler pocket, frozen latches in winter, rattling, and easy access for theft or vandalism. In some cases the door can pop open while driving, scratching paint and catching debris.

Common Signs of Failure

  • Loose or misaligned door
  • Latch won’t hold or won’t release
  • Rust buildup inside the filler recess
  • Rattling near the rear quarter panel
