559060K010 CABLE SUB-ASSY, DEFROSTER DAMPER CONTROL
Information
Defroster Damper Control Cable Assembly
This control cable links your dashboard HVAC slider/knob to the defroster damper inside the heater box. It is needed to direct warm or fresh air to the windshield when visibility drops from fog, rain, or frost. Without a healthy cable, the defrost position may not fully engage, even if the fan and heater work.
How It Works
The inner wire slides inside a protected outer sheath. When you move the HVAC control, the cable pulls or pushes a lever on the air box. That lever rotates the damper door to switch airflow paths (face/feet/defrost). A correctly adjusted cable gives smooth movement, positive βend stops,β and consistent airflow direction.
Symptoms of a Bad Cable β οΈ
If the cable stretches, kinks, seizes, or the end clips break, the damper may stay stuck. You can get weak windshield clearing, air blowing from the wrong vents, a loose HVAC control, or a clicking/binding feel when selecting modes. In cold weather, a failed defrost function can quickly turn into unsafe driving due to poor visibility.
Why Replace It β
Replacing the cable restores proper damper travel, improves defogging performance, and prevents extra strain on the HVAC control head and plastic damper levers.
