Information

Rear Differential Mount Insulator

This rubber-metal insulator sits between the differential mount and the vehicle body. Its job is simple: stop harsh vibration and noise from travelling into the cabin while keeping the drivetrain held in the correct position. If you feel a β€œclunk” on take-off or gear changes, this is one of the first mounts a technician checks ?

Why this part is needed

The differential produces constant load changes during acceleration, coasting, and cornering. The insulator cushions these forces, protecting the mount brackets and helping the driveshaft and CV angles stay stable.

How it works

Inside, tough elastomer absorbs shock, while bonded sleeves control movement. It allows controlled flex but prevents the differential from twisting excessively under torque. This balance improves comfort and reduces stress on nearby components.

What happens if it’s worn or broken

Common symptoms

  • Thumping or banging from the rear on acceleration/braking
  • Extra vibration through the floor at speed
  • Driveline shudder and harsher gear engagement
  • Premature wear of mounts, bushings, and couplings

Compatible Models

  • L300
