Inner Side Rod Joint for Steering Rack
This heavy‑duty inner tie rod socket links the steering rack to the outer rod, giving your front wheels precise left/right movement. Built for tough 4x4 duty, it keeps steering tight, quiet, and predictable on-road and off-road.
Why you need it ✅
Over time, dust, water, and impacts wear the internal ball-and-socket. Play appears, steering drifts, and tires wear unevenly. Replacing this joint restores factory steering feel, improves safety, and protects the rack and tires.
How it works
A hardened ball pivots inside a lubricated socket. It threads into the rack and transmits force to the outer tie rod. A sealed boot keeps grease in and grit out. Correct preload eliminates looseness while allowing smooth articulation through suspension travel.
What happens if it’s bad ⚠️
Symptoms include clunking over bumps, wheel shimmy, vague center, increased stopping distance from wandering, and torn boot with grease leak. Left ignored, it can damage the rack teeth, misalign the wheels, and cause rapid tire wear.
Tech notes
Replace in pairs when possible. Use thread-lock where specified, torque to spec, fit a new boot and clamps, then perform a full alignment. Check outer tie rod and rack mounts at the same time.
