Front ABS / Anti‑Skid Wheel Speed Sensor Assembly ?

This front wheel speed sensor is a key input for the ABS and traction/anti‑skid system. It is needed to keep braking stable on wet roads, gravel, or during emergency stops. The sensor reads the rotation speed of the front wheel and sends a clean signal to the ABS control unit, so it can prevent wheel lock and help maintain steering control.

How It Works ⚙️

A magnetic pickup inside the sensor monitors a tone ring (or encoder) near the hub. As the wheel turns, the sensor creates a pulse signal. The control unit compares wheel speeds and, if slip is detected, it commands the hydraulic modulator to reduce and reapply brake pressure in milliseconds.

When the Sensor Fails ❗

If the sensor is damaged, contaminated, or has wiring corrosion, the system may lose accurate wheel speed data. Common results are ABS/traction warning lights, ABS not activating when needed, longer stopping distance on slippery surfaces, and unexpected traction control behavior. In some cases, the vehicle can store fault codes and disable anti‑skid assistance until repaired.
