Rear Wheel Brake Cylinder Assembly (RH/LH) οΈ
This hydraulic brake cylinder is a key part of a drum brake system. It is needed to turn brake fluid pressure into strong outward force, so the brake shoes press evenly against the drum. When you step on the pedal, fluid enters the cylinder, pushing internal pistons and rubber seals outward. This creates friction at the drum and slows the vehicle safely, even with heavy loads or passengers.
How It Works β
The cylinder body holds two pistons, seals, and a fluid port. Brake pressure moves the pistons, the shoes expand, and return springs pull everything back when you release the pedal. Correct fit and smooth bore finish help prevent leaks and keep pedal feel firm.
If It Fails β οΈ
A worn or rusted bore can tear seals and cause fluid leaks. Typical results are a soft/low pedal, longer stopping distance, brake pull to one side, wetness around the backing plate, and contaminated brake shoes. Ignoring it may lead to sudden loss of rear braking and unsafe driving.
