Left-Hand Parking Brake Shoe Adjuster for Toyota
This small but vital assembly keeps your rear drum handbrake accurate and balanced. It sets the shoe-to-drum clearance on the driver-side (LH), giving firm holding power and short lever travel. Ideal when the handbrake feels weak, uneven, or needs frequent re-adjustment.
Why this part is needed
- Restores correct shoe clearance for dependable hill holds.
- Balances left/right braking force for stable parking.
- Compensates for lining wear, reducing cable strain.
- Prevents drag that overheats drums and wastes fuel.
How it works βοΈ
Mounted between the two rear shoes on the LH side, the threaded star wheel and sliding barrel spread or retract the shoes. A turn of the star wheel (via the backing plate window) sets a light, even contact with the drum. On some Toyota systems, a lever self-adjusts as shoes wear. Correct set-up gives strong lock with minimal handbrake lever clicks.
What happens if itβs broken β
- Long lever travel, weak or uneven hold on slopes.
- Dragging brake, hot drum, glazed linings, and noise.
- Pull to one side when applying the parking brake.
- Inspection/MOT failure due to imbalance or low efficiency.
Fitment & quality
Built for Toyota rear drum setups, with corrosion-resistant body and heat-treated threads for smooth, precise adjustment and long life.
Install tips
Replace per side with new hold-down springs. Clean the backing plate pads, apply a small amount of high-temp brake grease to adjuster threads only, set a slight shoe drag, then bed-in and recheck. Keep grease off linings and drum.
