Parking Brake Cable Assembly (Front Section)
This parking brake cable is a key link between your hand/foot parking brake lever and the rear brake mechanism. It is needed to hold the vehicle still when parked, especially on slopes, and to pass safety checks where a working handbrake is required.
How It Works βοΈ
When you pull the parking brake, the lever pulls the inner steel wire inside a tough outer sleeve. That pulling force travels to the equalizer and rear brake levers, spreading the shoes or locking the caliper mechanism. The outer casing stays fixed while the inner cable slides smoothly, giving strong holding power with controlled tension.
What If Itβs Worn or Broken
A stretched or seized cable can cause a weak handbrake, extra lever travel, or one-side braking. If the cable snaps, the parking brake may not hold at all, risking vehicle roll-away. If it binds, it can drag the brakes, creating heat, smell, poor fuel economy, and fast shoe/pad wear.
Common Symptoms β
- Parking brake wonβt hold on an incline
- Stiff pull or slow release
- Uneven rear brake locking
- Rattling or frayed strands near ends
Compatibility β
