Steering Rack Dust Boot (Inner)
This steering rack boot is a protective rubber cover that seals the rack end from dirt, water, and road salt. Itβs needed to keep the steering gear and inner tie rod area clean, so your steering stays smooth and accurate οΈ.
How It Works
The boot flexes as you turn the wheel, expanding and compressing with rack movement. At the same time, it holds grease in and keeps abrasive debris out, protecting the rack teeth and seals. A good boot also helps prevent corrosion on the rack shaft.
What Happens If Itβs Damaged
If the boot is torn, cracked, or loose, contaminants enter fast. Grease can leak, moisture causes rust, and the rack seal may fail. You may notice steering stiffness, knocking sounds over bumps, uneven steering feel, or even power steering fluid leaks (on hydraulic racks). Ignoring it can lead to expensive rack replacement β οΈ.
Recommended When Replacing
Check inner tie rods, clamps, and rack ends at the same time for best long-term results.
