Steering Rack Housing Grommet

This small rubber mount is vital for clean, precise steering. It cushions the steering rack where it fixes to the subframe, centers the housing, and seals out dust and water. By stopping metal-to-metal contact, it lowers noise and vibration, protects the rack internals, and keeps the steering feel tight and direct.

Why you need it

Without a healthy grommet, the rack can shift in its bracket. The part stabilizes the rack, maintains alignment, and helps the boot stay seated, extending the life of tie rods and internal bushings. It’s a simple, low-cost piece that saves the rack from early wear.

How it works βš™οΈ

A high-grade elastomer ring is pressed into the rack bracket. When clamped, it compresses just enough to absorb shocks while keeping the rack centered. The material resists oils, heat, and ozone, so it stays flexible and seals out grime and splash.

When it fails ⚠️

Expect steering play, pull or wander, clunks over bumps, and more vibration in the cabin. The boot may misalign, letting water in, which leads to corrosion and leaks. Tires can wear unevenly, and the rack may suffer damage that demands costly replacement.

Tips

Replace in pairs, inspect boots, use silicone grease on seating surfaces, torque mounts to spec, and perform alignment after installation.
