Why you need it
With age, seals harden and vanes wear. Pressure drops, the wheel feels heavy, and the pump can whine on turns. Installing a fresh unit restores assist, protects the rack-and-pinion, and prevents fluid aeration and belt strain.
How it works ⚙️
A belt-driven pulley spins a rotor with sliding vanes inside an eccentric ring. As chambers expand and contract, the pump draws fluid from the reservoir and sends it under controlled pressure through a flow/relief valve to the steering gear. Precision bearings and tight seals keep it quiet; an internal bypass guards against overpressure.
If it fails ⚠️
Expect heavy steering, whining or groaning, foamy fluid, leaks, or glitter in the reservoir. In severe cases, the pulley may seize, snapping the belt and affecting other accessories. Continued driving can overheat fluid and score the steering rack.
Tech notes
