Front Left Lower Suspension Ball Joint Assembly
This suspension joint is a critical link between the front lower control arm and the steering knuckle on the left side. It’s needed to keep the wheel firmly located while still allowing smooth steering movement and full up-and-down suspension travel. In everyday driving, it helps maintain correct wheel angle, stable handling, and even tire wear.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the housing, a hardened ball stud rotates and pivots in a tight socket. The grease and protective boot reduce friction and keep out water and dirt. This design lets the front wheel steer left/right while the suspension compresses over bumps without binding.
When It Fails
A worn joint can cause clunks, loose steering, vibration, and wandering on the road. If the boot tears, contamination speeds up wear fast. In severe cases, the stud can separate, leading to sudden loss of control and possible wheel collapse—do not ignore play or noises.
