How it works ✅

The gear meshes with the pinion (spider) gears and rotates on thrust surfaces inside the carrier. Controlled clearance and constant oil film prevent chatter. The splined hub grips the axle shaft so torque flows cleanly to the wheel.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Expect click or clunk in turns, vibration on take-off, metal flakes in oil, wheel hop, or loss of drive to one side. Severe damage can chip the ring and pinion, seize the cross pin, and leave the vehicle immobile.
