Side Differential Oil Seal for Nissan Trucks

This side axle oil seal keeps your rear differential clean, quiet, and leak-free. Mounted at the output side of the carrier where the axle shaft exits, it traps gear oil inside and blocks mud, dust, and water from entering. Built with a steel shell and a spring-loaded elastomer lip for long, stable sealing under heat and road vibration.

Why you need it

  • Maintains correct GL-5 gear oil level for gears and bearings
  • Prevents leaks soaking brakes and driveway
  • Protects side bearings and spider gears from wear

How it works โš™๏ธ

The primary lip hugs the axle journal and rides on a thin oil film, while a garter spring applies uniform tension. Dust lip shields against grit. The press-fit shell locks in the housing bore; correct depth keeps the lip on the polished running surface for a positive seal at all speeds.

What happens if it fails โ—

  • Oil on backing plate or wheel, smoky smell after drives
  • Low fluid causes humming on cruise, whine on load
  • Contamination leads to bearing pitting and ring-and-pinion damage

Ignoring a torn or hardened seal can drain the diff, overheat bearings, and chip gearsโ€”turning a small repair into a full rebuild.

Tech tips

  • Inspect and polish the axle journal; sleeve if grooved
  • Lightly oil the lip; install square with a seal driver
  • Torque fasteners to spec and refill to proper level
