This seal assembly is a small but critical barrier fitted at the rear axle housing area. Its main job is to keep gear oil exactly where it belongs—inside the axle—and stop dirt, water, and road grit from entering. A healthy seal helps the differential and bearings stay lubricated, quiet, and cool during heavy load driving and long highway runs .

Rear axles work under constant torque and vibration. The seal maintains oil pressure control at the housing end and prevents leaks that can soak brake parts and attract abrasive dust.

How it works ⚙️

The sealing lip rides against the rotating axle surface, creating a tight oil film. The outer case locks into the housing bore, while the inner lip flexes to follow axle movement, keeping lubrication sealed even when the suspension travels.

What happens if it’s worn or broken ❗

You may see gear oil leaking near the wheels, a burnt oil smell, noisy bearings, vibration, or weak braking if oil reaches the shoes/pads. If ignored, low oil can overheat the diff and cause expensive axle and bearing damage.
