How It Works
Precision brass rings press against the gear cone to match speeds before the dog teeth lock together. By equalizing shaft and gear RPM, the synchronizer delivers quiet, quick shifts and prevents wear on the hub sleeve and gear teeth.
If Itβs Worn or Broken
Expect hard 1β2 upshifts, grinding on downshifts, metal flakes in oil, and possible jumpβout under load. Continued driving can chip dogs, damage the slider, and lead to costly gear replacement.
