Automatic Transmission Oil Pickup Strainer οΈ
This ATF intake filter (transmission oil strainer) protects the gearbox by screening fluid before it reaches the pump and valve body. It traps clutch dust, gasket crumbs, and fine metal so shift timing stays precise and line pressure stays stable. Clean flow equals cooler temps, smoother drivability, and longer unit life.
Why you need it
Without a healthy pickup screen, debris recirculates and erodes bushings, solenoids, and valves. Replacing the strainer during a pan service is low-cost prevention that supports consistent pressure, crisp shifts, and extended ATF life.
How it works βοΈ
Mounted in the transmission pan, the pump draws ATF through a fine mesh inlet and into the suction tube. The wide mouth reduces restriction while the mesh captures particles. A sealed neck prevents air ingress that would cause cavitation, pressure drop, and slip.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Clogged, torn, or cracked parts lead to delayed engagement, flare on upshifts, shudder, pump whine, overheating, and burnt fluid. Left unchecked, valves stick and internal wear acceleratesβending in a costly rebuild.
