Manual gearbox countershaft bearing for Mitsubishi 4x4 βοΈ
Why you need it οΈ
This bearing supports the countershaft inside the manual transmission. It keeps the shaft straight under load, holds gears in correct mesh, reduces friction, and keeps shift quality smooth. With a healthy bearing, your L200/Triton or Pajero Sport drives quiet, shifts clean, and the gearbox lasts longer.
How it works
Hardened inner and outer races with precision rollers carry torque from the engine through the countershaft. Running in gear oil, the bearing controls axial and radial play, so synchros time correctly and gear teeth contact evenly. Proper fit and lubrication prevent heat, pitting, and metal wear.
What happens if it fails β
Typical signs are whine in 2nd/3rd, growl on throttle, rumble that changes with speed, metal glitter in oil, and sloppy play at shafts. Left unchecked, the bearing can overheat or seize, misaligning gears, burning synchros, chipping teeth, and even cracking the case. You may get hard shifts, popping out of gear, oil leaks, or total loss of drive. Timely replacement avoids a full rebuild.
Installation tips
Press in squarely, pre-lube, follow torque specs, set end float, renew seals and oil, and flush debris from the casing.
