Information

Engine Coolant Temp Sensor for Nissan engines

Why you need it

This tiny sensor is the ECUโ€™s thermometer. It tells the computer how hot the coolant is so it can set cold-start fuel enrichment, idle speed, ignition timing, and switch the radiator fan on time. With a good unit, you get easy starts, smooth idle, clean emissions, proper power, and solid fuel economy.

How it works

Inside sits an NTC thermistor. When coolant heats up, resistance drops; the ECU reads the voltage change and calculates temperature. A tapered/threaded body seals in the housing, while a two-pin plug carries signal and ground. Stable readings mean precise fueling across all conditions.

What happens if itโ€™s broken โš ๏ธ

Hard cold starts, rich running (fuel smell, black smoke),rough idle, poor mileage, late fan activation, overheating, and random stalling can occur. You may see a temp gauge mismatch and fault codes for the temp circuit. Long-term rich mix can foul plugs and damage the catalyst.

Install tips ๏ธ

Work on a cool engine, relieve pressure, drain a little coolant, replace the sealing washer, avoid tape on the tip, torque to spec, reconnect the plug cleanly, then bleed air from the system.
