Engine Thermostat Assembly for Subaru Cooling System
Keep your flat-four running at the right temperature ️. This OEM‑grade thermostat assembly controls coolant flow, locking in the sweet spot for power, economy, and heater performance. Correct temperature prevents sludge, protects gaskets, and stabilizes idle.
How it works
Inside the housing is a wax‑pellet valve. When the engine is cold it stays shut, routing coolant around the block for a fast warm‑up. As coolant reaches spec, the pellet expands and the valve opens, sending flow to the radiator . It modulates continuously, not just on/off, keeping temps steady under load and at cruise.
If it fails
Stuck open: long warm‑up, rich mixture, weak cabin heat, higher fuel use. Stuck closed: rapid overheating, boiling coolant, fan blasting, risk of warped heads and head‑gasket failure ⚠️. Erratic action causes temperature swings and premature radiator and hose wear.
Tech notes
Direct‑fit unit with correct jiggle‑valve orientation and sealing ring. Replace coolant, bleed air, and torque housing evenly .
