How it works ⚙️

Inside is a calibrated wax capsule that expands with heat and drives a valve. When the engine is cold, it stays closed to circulate coolant inside the block for fast warm-up. As temperature rises, it opens progressively, sending flow to the radiator and holding a steady 88–92°C window for consistent performance and smooth heater output.

What happens if it’s broken ⚠️

Stuck closed: rapid overheating, hard upper hose, boiling, faded heater, risk of warped heads and blown gasket. Stuck open: engine runs cold, high fuel use, weak cabin heat, emissions faults (often P0128), sluggish response. A leaking seal causes slow overheating and coolant loss.

Install tips

Work on a cool engine. Replace gasket, orient jiggle pin up, torque evenly, bleed air, refill 50/50 coolant, and verify opening temp via scan data or IR thermometer.
