Intake Manifold to Cylinder Head Sealing Gasket (No.1)
This sealing gasket sits between the intake manifold and the cylinder head. Its main job is to keep the intake air path perfectly sealed, so the engine gets the correct airflow and stable vacuum. A tight seal helps the ECU read sensors correctly, supports smooth idle, and keeps fuel trim within spec β .
Why this gasket is needed
Heat cycles, vibration, and manifold movement slowly flatten the sealing rings. Over time, even a small leak can create a vacuum loss that the engine cannot βtune out.β Replacing the gasket restores the factory seal and protects nearby parts from unfiltered air and dust.
How it works
When the manifold bolts are torqued down, the gasket compresses and fills micro-gaps in both mating surfaces. This compression forms an airtight barrier so air only enters through the throttle body and measured passages. Good sealing = correct air/fuel balance and better drivability .
If the gasket is damaged
A broken or hardened gasket may cause rough idle, whistling/hissing, hesitation, lean codes, higher fuel use, and misfires. In severe cases, it can lead to overheating around the intake area or repeated check engine lights β οΈ.
