Why this part is needed
Oil is the engine’s lifeblood. Too little causes metal-to-metal wear, overheating, and low oil pressure; too much can foam, aerate, and blow seals. A correct reading prevents costly repairs and keeps your Toyota running smooth.
How it works
The blade slides down the guide tube into the sump. A stopper on the handle sets exact depth so the marks match factory capacity. The cap grommet seals the tube, blocking dust and vapor leaks. Check on level ground, warm engine, after 5 minutes of shutoff.
If it’s damaged or missing ⚠️
Bent or rusty blades give false readings; worn grommets leak fumes; a cracked handle can snap; a lost tip may fall into the pan. Wrong oil level risks bearing knock, timing wear, sludge, and catalytic damage.
Tech notes ✅
Lightly oil the O-ring, insert to the stop, wipe and recheck. Replace if marks are faded, blade is pitted, or seal is hard.
