Front Crankshaft Oil Seal for Nissan Engines οΈ
This precision front main seal keeps engine oil inside the timing cover and away from the crank pulley area. Designed for long life and stable sealing at high RPM, it protects the timing system, accessories, and driveway from messy leaks while helping your engine stay clean and efficient.
Why you need it
The crank nose spins at high speed. Without a tight seal, oil escapes, attracting dust and wearing belts. A healthy seal prevents leaks, keeps the timing belt/chain dry, and maintains correct oil level for proper lubrication and cooling.
How it works βοΈ
An elastomer lip (often NBR or Viton) hugs the crankshaft snout. A garter spring maintains uniform pressure, while micro ribs manage an oil film that seals as the crank rotates. Correct interference fit in the cover holds it square and stable.
What happens if itβs broken
Signs include oil mist on the lower timing cover, drips behind the crank pulley, belt/chain contamination, squeal, burningβoil smell, and low oil level. Left unchecked, it can cause bearing wear, timing slip, overheating, and costly engine damage.
Replacement tips οΈ
Use a proper puller/installer, clean the bore, set the seal flush and square, lightly oil the lip, check the crank for grooves (use a sleeve if needed), verify PCV/venting to avoid pressure, and torque the balancer bolt to spec.
