Subaru Valve/Rocker Cover Gasket

This precision gasket seals the top of the cylinder head to the aluminum cover on Subaru boxer engines. Its job is simple but vital: keep engine oil inside, keep dust and moisture out, and maintain a clean path for crankcase ventilation. A fresh seal prevents oil loss and protects ignition parts from contamination, helping your Subaru run quiet and leak-free.

Why you need it βœ…

Over time heat cycles harden the old rubber, causing seepage. Replacing the gasket restores proper sealing, keeps oil off the exhaust manifold, and stops oil from entering spark plug tubes, extending coil and plug life.

How it works βš™οΈ

A molded silicone/elastomer bead compresses evenly when the cover bolts are torqued, sealing around cam caps and plug tubes. The gasket works with bolt grommets to hold even pressure and resist heat, vibration, and oil chemistry.

If it fails

Expect wet edges around the cover, burning oil smell, light smoke near the manifold, drips on the undertray, and misfires from oil-soaked plug wells. Running low on oil can raise wear, noise, and temperature.

Tech install notes

  • Clean mating surfaces; no sealant except tiny RTV dabs at cam cap corners.
  • Tighten in a crisscross pattern to spec; do not overtighten.
  • Replace bolt grommets and spark plug tube seals; inspect PCV hose.
