Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Retainer Assembly ️

This housing centers and clamps the rear main seal around the crankshaft, sealing the joint between engine and transmission. Built from rigid alloy, it keeps the seal perfectly square to stop oil leaks and protects the flywheel/flexplate area.

Why this part is needed

Without a true, stable seat, the rear main seal can’t hold oil. The retainer provides exact alignment, correct crush on the seal, and a flat mating face for RTV or a gasketβ€”key to long-term leak prevention and clean driveline operation.

How it works

The assembly locates via dowels, centers the seal bore, and distributes bolt load in a crisscross torque pattern. A thin sealant bead fills micro gaps in the block interface. The seal lip rides on the crank hub, while the retainer keeps geometry and pressure consistent .

What happens if it’s damaged

Warp, cracks, or pitting cause oil seep or gush at the bellhousing, oil on the flexplate/clutch, burnt smell, slipping, driveway spots, and rising oil consumption. Prolonged leaks risk low oil pressure and engine wear. Always replace the seal and reseal the housing during gearbox-out service.
