Engine Front Case / Timing Cover Housing βοΈ
This precision-cast front housing closes the cylinder blockβs nose, supports the timing drive, and seals critical oil passages. It carries the front crankshaft seal, mounts the oil pump (on many engines), and guides coolant and lubrication flow. Built for exact alignment, it keeps the heart of your Mitsubishi engine tight and clean.
Why this part is needed οΈ
It keeps oil inside, protects the belt/chain from dust and water, maintains oil pressure, and provides stable mounting points for sensors and accessories. A healthy front case means quiet timing, proper pressure, and long engine life.
How it works
Bolted to the cylinder block with dowels, it forms the timing chamber, houses the crank seal, and, where applicable, the oil pump cavity. The pump draws oil from the sump and feeds galleries; the seal rides the crank snout to stop leaks; flat, rigid faces hold timing in perfect alignment.
If itβs damaged or cracked β οΈ
Expect oil leaks, coolant seepage, low oil pressure, chain/belt noise, mis-timing, overheating, warning lights, and potential bearing or turbo failure. Ignoring it can lead to catastrophic engine seizure.
Installation tips
Clean mating surfaces, use new gasket/RTV at joints, replace the front crank seal and O-rings, torque in sequence, align dowels, and prime the oil pump with assembly lube before first start.
