Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Retainer Housing for Toyota Engines

Why you need it

This housing keeps the rear crankshaft oil seal perfectly centered and firmly seated against the crank. It locks in engine oil, protects the flywheel/flexplate area, and keeps clutch or torque converter clean. A precise retainer prevents seepage that can turn into major leaks and costly repairs ️.

How it works

The machined alloy carrier bolts to the block and rear cover using a tight torque pattern. It holds the lip seal at the right depth and concentricity so the seal’s edge rides evenly on the crank journal. With correct alignment and seal crush, oil stays inside under heat, vibration, and crankcase pulses.

What happens if it fails

Cracks, warping, or worn sealing surfaces cause oil leaks at the bellhousing, burning smell on exhaust, messy flywheel, slipping clutch or contaminated torque converter area, and gradual oil loss. Long term, this can lead to low oil level and bearing wear ⚠️.

Tech notes for replacement

• Always install a new rear main seal with the housing.
• Clean mating faces; use the specified RTV or gasket as per service manual.
• Align dowels, torque in sequence, and lightly oil the seal lip.
• Inspect crank surface; polish if lightly scored.
