Information
Crankshaft Main Bearing Set for Smooth Engine Rotation ?
This precision engine bearing supports the crankshaft inside the block and keeps it perfectly aligned while it spins. It is needed because the crankshaft carries heavy load from combustion, and without a stable oil-supported surface, the engine cannot run smoothly.
How It Works ⚙️
The bearing forms a controlled clearance around the crank journal. Engine oil builds a thin film between metal surfaces, so the crankshaft “floats” during operation. This reduces friction, prevents heat spikes, and keeps oil pressure stable at higher RPM.
Why Replacement Matters ✅
If the bearing is worn, oil clearance becomes too large and pressure drops. You may notice knocking, vibration, or metallic debris in the oil. If it fails completely, the crankshaft can score, overheat, and seize—often damaging the block and turning a repair into a full engine rebuild.
Common Signs of a Problem ?️
- Low oil pressure warning or fluctuating readings
- Deep knocking sound under load
- Shimmering metal particles in drained oil
- Overheating and rough idle
