Why this part is needed
The master cylinder is the core of your hydraulic brakes. With age, rubber cups harden, springs weaken, and grommets leak. Rebuilding restores sealing and pressure, giving a firm pedal and predictable stopping. Itβs a cost-effective fix when the cylinder bore is still smooth and within spec.
How it works
When you press the pedal, a piston slides in the bore, sealing with rubber cups to push fluid into the brake lines. The kitβs new cups, return spring, dust boot, and reservoir grommets stop internal bypass and air ingress, keeping line pressure steady and the pedal height consistent under heat and repeated stops.
What happens if itβs worn or broken β οΈ
Symptoms include long travel, spongy feel, pedal that slowly sinks at lights, uneven braking, fluid weeping at the rear of the master, and dash warnings. Ignoring it increases stopping distance and can overwork calipers and shoes, risking rotor/drum damage.
Tech notes
Inspect the bore for scoring; if pitted, replace the whole unit. Use fresh DOT 3/4 fluid, bench-bleed after assembly, then bleed all wheels for a clean, firm pedal.
