Camshaft Timing Adjuster (Intake/Left) for Mercedes Engines ⚙️

This cam timing adjuster is a key part of the variable valve timing system. It is needed to keep the intake camshaft on the left cylinder bank synchronized with engine load, RPM, and oil pressure commands. When it works correctly, the engine starts smoother, pulls harder at mid-range, and can reduce fuel use and emissions ✅.

How It Works

Inside the unit, precision chambers and locking pins use engine oil pressure to rotate the camshaft slightly ahead or behind. The ECU controls an oil control valve, and the adjuster changes cam angle in real time. This helps the engine breathe correctly during cold start, cruising, and acceleration.

Why Replacing It Matters

If the adjuster is worn or sticking, cam timing may drift. You can get rattling on start-up, rough idle, slow response, misfires, and check-engine timing codes. In severe cases, incorrect cam phasing can cause poor combustion and accelerated chain, guide, and cam wear ❗.

Common Symptoms of a Faulty Adjuster

  • Cold start rattle or ticking
  • Loss of power and uneven acceleration
  • Timing correlation fault codes
  • Higher fuel consumption
