Why this part is needed

This shaft sends engine power from the rear differential to the left wheel. It keeps acceleration smooth, maintains traction in corners, and supports stable ABS/ESP operation. Fresh joints and boots reduce vibration, protect bearings, and prevent costly wear in the hub and differential.

How it works

The differential drives a halfshaft with two constant-velocity joints. The inner joint allows length change (plunge) as the suspension moves; the outer joint steers the torque through angles to the hub. Grease-filled boots seal the joints, while hardened splines lock to the hub and diff. On IRS setups like this, the LH rear axle must handle both vertical travel and cornering loads 🚗.

What happens if it’s broken

Torn boot leaks grease, causing clicking on turns, clunks on takeoff, and shake at 60–100 km/h. You may see oil contamination, ABS light if the tone ring is damaged, and uneven tire wear. Severe wear leads to loss of drive or joint lockup—stop driving and tow ⚠️.

Service tips

Use new axle nut and circlip, torque to spec, and avoid pulling by the boot. Align splines gently, inspect the diff seal, and road-test for noise and vibration.
